Out running…6 years of daily running

Today marks 6 years on my daily running streak. Six years (2192 days)…I never really imagined the streak going for so long, but now it is just something I do — I run.

This past year (streak year, not calendar year), I ran 1,988 miles, which brings my six-year streak total to 10,906 miles.

I plan to keep the streak going, because at this point I can’t imagine not running every day.

Out running…2019 miles in 2019

Back in January, I set a goal to run 2019 miles in 2019. In the first half of the year, I kept on a good pace, right where I needed to be to accomplish this goal. I had an especially good month in July, with just shy of 215 miles for the month. Then I fell behind a little in September with only 117 miles for the month. But I got back on track in October and November and had a strong December.

And — I accomplished the goal. I ran 2019 miles in 2019. Well, actually I ran 2019 + 1, for a total of 2020.

Also, my daily run streak remains alive and is now at 2071 days.

For 2020 I want to keep the run streak alive, and also run the year in miles — 2020 miles for 2020.

Out running…5 years of daily running

Today marks 5 years on my run streak. I’m super happy, but It feels a little strange at this point, to think — I’ve run every single day for the past 5 years.

I’ve run in the hot (really hot), and the cold, as well as in the sun and rain. I’ve run in more thunderstorms than I care to admit, and even with a hurricane approaching.

The majority of my runs have been outside, with a few exceptions being on a treadmill when I was on a cruise. The majority have been at least a few miles in length, though I’ve had a few that were the ‘minimal’ one mile to keep the streak alive when I was sick and feeling miserable.

I wish I could say that I have some grand plan for the streak. I will be keeping it alive, but the truth is that I just love to run.

It is my selfish time.

A time where I don’t have to do anything, a time where I don’t have to think about anything. It is just me, the road, and whatever audiobook or podcast I happen to be listening to on that day.

Anyway, these 5 years break down with a total of 8,919 miles, which equates to an average of (roughly) 4.88 miles per day.

Goal: Run 2019 miles in 2019

I’ve set a running goal for the 2019 calendar year — to run 2019 (or more) miles.

I ran 1,638 miles in 2018, which averaged out to about 4.5 miles per day. That means I need to up my yearly mileage by about 380 miles. A fair increase, but certainly possible provided I can keep from getting injured and/or sick.

With some basic math — 2019 (miles) divided by 365 (days) — I find I will need to average about 5.5315068493 miles per day. To keep that a bit simpler, and to ensure I go over as opposed to under the goal, we’ll just call it 5.55 miles per day.

Running in 2018

I have finished another calendar year with my run streak going strong.

It always feels natural to look back based on a calendar year, but in the case of running I also have the run streak year mark, My running streak began on May 1 in 2014. Basically, that was to say you’ll likely get to see a similar summary post come May 1, 2019.

But anyway, here is what I ran for 2018.

1,638.2 miles, which averages to about 4.49 miles per day. (I am looking to increase that amount by about 1 mile each day in 2019, but more on that in a future post.)
